Who Do People Think Are Honest?

Not surprisingly (and fortunately) people believe their pharmacists and physicians are trustworthy and ethical. Here is a study from Gallup.

One Response to “Who Do People Think Are Honest?”

  1. I guess it depends on the way the question is asked. At the PATH Institute we track twenty health priority and attitude trends, and two of them relate to trust in medical providers. Here are recent numbers:

Doctors and nurses are not as competent as most people think.

    Strongly agree – 8%
    Somewhat agree – 20%

Doctors often prescribe drugs to patients without knowing all the effects.

    Strongly agree – 7%
    Somewhat agree – 17%

The numbers for both questions are fairly close, and both indicate that about a quarter of us don’t think highly of medical providers. I’ll also add that people at the strongly agree levels stop taking medications without talking to their doctor at a rate 66% higher than those with higher trust. In a recent study, lack of trust was a bigger driver of poor adherence than the ability to pay.
