Member ID Card Application on iPhone

Priority Health (which I find to be a well run and progressive managed care plan) announced their new iPhone application.  I suspect many will follow. It’s simple today, but imagine all the information you can put there – copays, drug history, lab values.

There’s an app gold-rush with large companies these days.

However, something as straightforward like this is actually better served on a website specifically formatted for mobile devices, so that it only needs to be developed once for all smartphone, and can be upgraded much more easily. This is particularly true now that Apple recently revised their developer agreement to prevent cross-platform applications from taking foothold, and also HTML5 is gaining more traction.

At some point, Youtube will probably stop channeling dollars into their iphone app, and focus all their effort on their m.youtube.com.

Platform specific App development is costly, and it doesn’t actually serve the purpose of most companies. But many would benefit from some kind of mobile websites.
